Description and Functions Open Until Filled GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking an Information and Education Specialist in Pinedale, Wyoming who will work closely with the Pinedale and Jackson regional personnel.
This position coordinates information and education for the Wyoming Game and Fish Department's Pinedale and Jackson Regions in conjunction with the Department's communications and education team.
This position interacts with the media and constituents on a variety of Department issues.
This position coordinates and conducts hunter education and wildlife conservation education programs.
This role also facilitates internal and external public participation processes to meet departmental needs for wildlife and fisheries management decisions.
This position is responsible for regionally specific information and education activities, coordination of statewide information and education activities, and regional hunter-education activities.
Actionable representation will be expected for both regions in communication and education.
The preferred location is in the Pinedale office, but consideration will be given to anyone in Jackson who already has a housing option.
No housing will be provided.

gov ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
Coordinate with the Communication and Education Division on internal and external messaging to ensure consistency across the Department and alignment with the Department's communication plan.
Coordinate internal and external communication at the regional and statewide level by gathering information regarding Department issues, programs, and projects.
Compose magazine and newspaper articles, news releases, radio programs, social media content, and regional website content, and radio/television public service announcements.
Coordinate with the hunter education coordinators to facilitate and, at times, teach regional hunter education classes.
Engage the public in promoting hunter education classes, administering local enrollment, attendance, and instruction, along with guiding these activities to other regional volunteer instructors Work with the media to proactively communicate Department activities, concerns, decisions, programs, and projects.
Reviews news coverage and responds in a timely manner to requests for interviews, information, and questions from the media.
Acts as an agency liaison to the public, disseminating information to newspapers, radio, television, communication networks, website, and internet-based media.
Acts as an agency liaison between regional leadership and headquarters, keeping all parties informed of emerging news, events, and potential problems.
Implement public participation practices by facilitating public meetings, statewide and local working groups, and community workshops.
Facilitate discussion, capture group input, and compile notes from these discussions.
Plan, direct, and lead indoor and outdoor wildlife conservation education programs.
These include but are not limited to schools, sportsmen clubs, professional organizations, community-based natural resource workshops, community fishing events, and seminars, and special events and celebrations.
Annually assist the conservation education branch in administering, coordinating, and instructing conservation programs, shooting sports events, agency presence at large regional events or expos, and other educational outreach activities.
Develop differentiated instruction for audiences of all ages and all learning needs, often using nationally and internationally recognized interdisciplinary curricula that allow teachers to meet Wyoming state school standards.
Coordinate with local teachers and youth group leaders to use education teaching aids and outdoor recreation equipment.
Maintain regional education equipment.
Research subject matter, determine methods of interpretation, write, and edit interpretive text, design interpretive panels, brochures, trails, and signs.
Design an annual work plan based on department priorities.
Coordinate and collaborate with regional teams, the media team, and the education team.
Maintain proficiency in technical and creative writing through attendance at in-service training sessions and with professional development.
Promote collaboration that emphasizes teamwork and the importance of a whole community effort for effective decision-making and action responses.
Qualifications PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Preference may be given to those with a bachelor's degree or related degree in journalism, education, or communications, emphasizing Wildlife or Natural Resource Management or Wildlife Management and Conservation, plus 3 years of progressive work experience in public relations.
**Must have a valid driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of and experience with journalism techniques.
Knowledge of public communication techniques.
Knowledge of and experience with public participation techniques.
Knowledge of wildlife and fish management or conservation education Knowledge of strategic planning practices.
Knowledge of conservation education principles.
Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with a diverse community.
Experience working with diverse groups and viewpoints Team-work/team-building Hunting, fishing, trapping, wildlife enjoyment, and outdoor recreation A high level of computer literacy and knowledge of digital trends Strong attention to detail Strong written and visual communication skills Objectivity and an ability to see the bigger picture Patience and flexibility Creative problem-solving skills Good time-management skills and an ability to work to deadlines Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities Willingness to learn and adapt MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's Degree (typically in Public Relations) Experience: 0-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Public Relations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Public Relations Specialist II OR Education & Experience Substitution: 4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Public Relations) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Public Relations Specialist II Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None Necessary Special Requirements PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Travel is required in this position.
